The Duke Department of Pediatrics invites applications for a full-time faculty position within the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology. Ideal candidates will have particular expertise and interest in the diagnosis and management of children with CNS neoplasms. Individuals with expertise in launching and conducting clinical trials of novel treatments will be prioritized. Professional activities will principally focus on providing neuro-oncology care to children on inpatient and outpatient settings and on launching and carrying out clinical and translational research trials focused on childhood brain tumor patients.
The selected candidate will have a primary appointment in the Department of Pediatrics Division of Hematology/Oncology, which embraces the missions of providing exceptional clinical care on inpatient and outpatient settings; facilitating growth and advancement across the spectrum from undergraduate students, graduate and medical students, clinical fellows, and junior faculty; and pursuing clinical, translational, and laboratory-based research focused on improving outcomes for children with cancer and classical blood disorders.
The Division currently includes 16 full-time faculty physicians, 4 advanced practice providers, 12 clinical and laboratory research staff members, and additional staff members to provide social work, child psychology, child-life, and care coordination expertise. If a qualified candidate has primary clinical training in another pediatric subspecialty, alternative primary appointments will be considered.
The selected candidate will join a vibrant community in which our division intersects seamlessly with other important centers and institutes, to which secondary appointments will be sought, as appropriate. Those particularly relevant to this position include the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center, the home to more than a dozen other researchers and clinicians caring for brain tumor patients through adulthood;
the Duke Cancer Institute, which is among just over 50 other NCI-designated comprehensive cancer centers in the US; and the Division of Pediatric Transplant and Cell Therapy.
The School of Medicine supports over 70 other core facilities and centers, including the Duke Clinical Research Institute and the Duke Global Health Institute, all of which are nestled into the heart of the Duke University Campus. This creates a remarkably collaborative and fertile environment for professional growth and innovations changing how pediatric care is delivered on and far beyond our campus.
Candidates must hold an MD or MD/PhD, or equivalent degree(s), and be certified or eligible for certification in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology by the American Board of Pediatrics. We will consider individuals at any academic rank, and compensation/benefits will be commensurate to experience.
Duke Health offers a robust compensation plan that rewards clinical productivity and academic excellence. Salary and faculty title will be commensurate with training, experience, and the focus of the role. Faculty members enjoy Duke benefits including retirement planning, health insurance, CME, relocation, and college tuition assistance for dependent children.
