Job ResponsibilitiesYour responsibilities as a Lead Teacher
KIPP NC teachers develop the knowledge, skills, and character strengths students need to succeed in education and beyond. Responsibilities vary by experience, but include:
- Expectations of Instruction Preparation & Delivery
- Review, internalize, and facilitate KIPP NC adopted & scripted curriculum
- K - 8 Math:

Amplify & aligned materials to NC Standards - 9 - 12 English & History: AP For All Curriculum
- 9 - 12 Math & Science: KIPP NC Approved Materials
- Practice lesson delivery with fidelity to pacing guides
- Create exemplar responses and documents to hold students accountable
- Use assessment data (Interim Assessments, MAP, EOGs, EOCs, summatives, formatives) to guide instruction and adjust lessons
- Embrace feedback to pursue excellence
- Maintain accurate gradebook, records, and data tracking
- Help Build a Positive School and Classroom Culture
- Model and uphold school values and culture
- Take responsibility for student achievement
- Maintain a classroom displaying student work and appropriate decorations
- Develop positive relationships with students, families, teachers, and staff through regular communication and participation in events
- Engage in daily school operations (arrival, advisory, lunch, recess, dismissal)

QualificationsRequired Qualifications
- A deep commitment to KIPP NC’s mission and belief in every student’s potential
- 3+ years of K-12 teaching experience, preferably in a high-performing charter school
- Commitment to closing the opportunity gap
- Valid North Carolina teaching license or willingness to pursue certification within 6 months
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant content area
- Criminal background check clearance
- Enthusiasm, grit, professionalism, and a sense of humor
- Ability to stand and actively monitor classrooms for 8+ hours per day
- Ability to lift 50 lbs or more as needed
Preferred Qualifications
- More than 3 years of K-12 teaching experience
- Experience in high-performing charter schools and/or schools with many students on free/reduced lunch
- Proven success in raising achievement for economically marginalized students
- Praxis passed or plan to pass by Sep 2025
- Spanish language proficiency
KIPP Durham Middle School refounding requires extended hours and responsibilities; for the 25–26 school year, a higher schedule applies (7:30am–5pm Mon–Thu, 7:30am–3:45pm Fri). Optional Saturday School and Summer Academy duties may be required. Curriculum and resources are provided; monthly Teacher Work Days include PD and data analysis.
