Description
The Duke University School of Nursing (DUSON) invites applications from doctorally prepared candidates for a full-time, on-campus faculty position with primary teaching and leadership responsibilities within the School’s Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), Family Nurse Practitioner program. National Certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-BC/NP-C) is required.
QualificationsWell-qualified applicants will have a minimum of two years of full-time clinical practice as an FNP and be eligible for approval to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in North Carolina. One to two years of demonstrated success teaching at the graduate nursing level is preferred with evidence of successful didactic and clinical interprofessional health educational experience. Competitive candidates are those with experience in graduate nursing curriculum development and demonstrated mentorship of NP students.
A nursing education certification, competency in distance-based program experience in teaching, and demonstrated leadership and advocacy in state and/or national professional nursing organizations is preferred.
Candidates must be capable of teaching across programs (pre-licensure, MSN-FNP program, and DNP programs) and show evidence of a developed program of scholarship that may include publications, grants, clinical practice quality improvement projects, and/or clinical practice guidelines. Faculty appointment for this position will be made at the Assistant or Associate Professor level on Track II (a non-tenure earning practice/clinical track), depending on the candidate’s qualifications.
The candidate is required to possess a doctoral degree at the time of application submission.
The Duke Nursing community includes more than 90 full-time faculty members, over 120 staff members and approximately 1,100 students. The school offers four nursing degree programs:
1) pre-licensure Master of Nursing (MN) program for students with an earned baccalaureate (or higher) degree,
2) Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) and Post‑graduate certificate programs,
3) Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) that includes the Nurse Anesthesia program,
4) Doctor of Philosophy (PhD program). The Family Nurse Practitioner program was ranked #1 in the most recent U.S. News and World Report for 2025‑2026 rankings of graduate nursing programs.
