Athletic Academic Coordinator-Football
Role OverviewDuke University seeks an Athletic Academic Coordinator to provide holistic academic support to a case load of football student‑athletes and one additional athletic team. The coordinator will monitor academic progress, offer academic coaching, and maintain open communication with coaches and staff, ensuring compliance with NCAA, conference, and institutional regulations.
Essential Functions- Utilize research‑based learning strategies to design and implement academic interventions that improve reading, writing, time management, and study skills.
- Advise students on matriculation/graduation requirements, registration, and institutional policies.
- Participate in recruiting visits with prospective student‑athletes.
- Maintain knowledge of NCAA and institutional rules concerning continuation and eligibility requirements.
- Monitor academic progress of student‑athletes; assess performance and its impact on NCAA/institutional advancement toward degree and eligibility.
- Meet with first‑year and at‑risk student‑athletes weekly to aid transition to Duke.
- Refer student‑athletes to campus and athletics department resources when appropriate (e.g., tutoring, writing studio, academic resource center).
- Serve as academic coordinator for one additional assigned sport.
- Collaborate with academic advisors and deans to support student‑athletes throughout the Duke experience.
- Communicate regularly with coaches and other support staff of the assigned sport.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Ability to anticipate issues, assess data, and develop practical solutions to complex problems.
- High self‑motivation, strong work ethic, organization, attention to detail, and productivity; skilled at time management and meeting deadlines.
- Genuine, warm, service‑oriented communication style.
- Proactive in anticipating student needs.
- Effective collaboration within the football academic support team and the student‑athlete support unit.
- Member of the department's academic support unit reporting to Jacqueline Davis, Director of Academic Services.
- Commitment to Duke’s shared values of respect, trust, inclusion, discovery, and excellence.
- Master’s degree in counseling, social work, education, student development, athletic administration, or a related field.
- Experience as an academic advisor, learning specialist, instructor, or counselor.
- Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse population of students, coaches, and university partners.
- Flexible schedule to meet the needs of a unique, diverse group of students.
- Education: Master’s degree in counseling, education, student development, athletic administration, or a related field.
- Experience: Two years of academic advising, teaching, or counseling at the university level preferred; experience working with a diverse population of students, coaches, and administrators.

Anticipated Pay RangeDuke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $48,960.00 to USD $77,928.00.
