Title: Middle School 5th Grade English and Language Arts Teacher

Reports to: Middle School Principal
Starting Date: Immediately

We are seeking a 5th Grade English and Language Arts Teacher to join our Middle School Team. The teacher will plan, organize, and deliver an instruction program aligned with North Carolina objectives and coordinate project‑based learning initiatives with the grade‑level team. The role is supervised by the building principal and assistant principal.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Employment hours are 7:45 – 3:45, Monday through Friday.

• Meet and instruct assigned classes at designated times.
• Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
• Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to student maturity.
• Develop lesson plans and provide written evidence of preparation upon request.
• Encourage students to set and maintain classroom behavior standards.
• Guide the learning process toward curriculum goals, establishing clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects.
• Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet diverse student needs.
• Follow the NC Standard Course of Study and teach the NC standards.
• Implement the school’s educational philosophy and instructional goals in practice.
• Assess student progress regularly and provide required progress reports.
• Seek assistance from EC teachers and facilitators as needed.
• Take precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Maintain accurate records as required by law and administrative regulations.
• Assist administration with policies and rules governing student life and conduct, establishing behavior expectations and procedures.
• Be available to students and parents for education‑related purposes outside instructional hours when required or reasonably requested.
• Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for paraprofessionals and volunteers.
• Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
• Attend meetings and serve on staff committees as required.

Minimum

Education and Experience:

Bachelor of Arts/Science in Education or related field, NC Certification/license.
