Occupational Summary

The MQM Program Coordinator (level 10) provides significant support to the Master of Quantitative Management:
Business Analytics (MQM:BA) program while also engaging with the additional two one‑year programs:
Master of Management Studies (MMS) and Master in Business, Climate, and Sustainability (MBCS). This role is responsible for supporting the planning and coordination of MQM:

BA program‑led and student‑led events. In addition, the Program Coordinator will serve as a point of contact for students via program‑wide communication and periodic individual student support. Work will be both individual and team based. This position requires, as needed, evening and weekend availability.

Work Performed

Program Sponsored Event Planning
  • Help plan, coordinate, and assist with social, co‑curricular, and academic programming for students including orientation, graduation, Winterfest (Fuqua‑wide event), Duke Chapel climbs, term events, social events (BINGO, trivia), technical workshops, data competitions, and guest speakers. Planning logistics include room reservations, catering, order of event supplies, room setup, distribution of materials, attendance sheets and name tags, parking passes, and special guest meetings.
  • Provide event overview in a timely manner. Communicate with staff to outline roles and responsibilities.
  • Monitor and evaluate event planning process for large and small events. Recommend and implement modifications to enhance the student experience.
Student Support
  • Assist the student leadership association with event planning – idea generation, knowledge of Fuqua and Duke policies, catering suggestions, vendor connections, and material ordering.
  • Supervise students during student‑led events when needed.
  • Periodic coaching on time management, class preparation, team dynamics, friendships, transition to Durham, transportation, travel.
  • Refer students to relevant staff for deeper or more critical concerns.
  • Help collect and maintain resources for student engagement and support: academic, student life, team building, health and wellness.
  • Support staff in testing accommodations and returning from leaves of absence.
Student Communication
  • Monitor and respond to incoming student questions covering schedules, health insurance, visas, housing, safety, shopping, and dining.
  • Compile and distribute weekly newsletters – adding/updating events on the student calendar, promoting Fuqua and Duke‑wide resources, notifying class/room changes, and providing resources for cultural, spiritual, and identity centers.
  • Notify students of academic teams and changes. Support review of team charters and provide feedback.
  • Create surveys to collect academic and non‑academic information (e.g., t‑shirt sizes, elective sign‑ups, speaker nominations, teaching awards) and disseminate results.
General Administration
  • Collaborate with admissions, marketing, alumni relations, and career services for support, knowledge sharing, and collaboration on student needs.
  • Perform other related duties as relevant.
Required Skills And Qualifications Education / Training

Work requires analytical, communications and organizational skills generally acquired through a bachelor’s degree program.

Experience

Work requires one year of experience in program administration or in academic, instructional, or counseling activities to acquire skills necessary to plan, coordinate and implement a variety of program activities and events.

Skills
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to transition between working with graduate students, faculty, and staff.
  • Ability to work with, relate to, and empathize with students.
  • Logical reasoning to evaluate alternative solutions.
  • Evaluating program performance, summarizing findings, communicating results, and forming action plans.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Experience using survey tools such as Qualtrics.
  • Preferred experience working with international students.
  • Preferred experience teaching or working with English language learners.
