Do Great Things! Durham Technical Community College is hiring an Engineering Instructor in the Engineering Department. The Adjunct Instructor is responsible for course preparation, delivery, attendance, and grading. The Instructor will work closely with his or her Discipline Chair on matters related to and for the benefit of the Engineering Department and its students. More specifically, and consistent with the terms and conditions of appointment as stipulated in the contract of employment.
Responsibilities
Teach all courses, as assigned, for the full duration of scheduled instructionBe fully prepared with a syllabus and instructional plans for each class session in accordance with the stated objectives of the courseEnforce academic policy and procedures at all times, and comply with institutional rules and regulationsMaintain complete course and student records, and formsStay current with developments in the field of instructionAssume other necessary responsibilities and perform additional tasks as assigned by the chair, department dean, chief instructional officer, or president, in meeting the needs of the department, division, and collegeAssume responsibility for laboratory/classroom preparation, including maintenance and cleanup, and recommend, as necessary, appropriate laboratory supplies and equipmentMust complete mandatory trainingEducation Requirements
Master of Science in Engineering and Degree from an Accredited University – required
Preferred Qualifications - Certification on Solid Works software – preferred
Work Experience
- Successful experience teaching at a university or community college is preferred
- Work Experience in Engineering is preferred
Professional Qualifications
Thorough understanding of and commitment to the mission and philosophy of the North Carolina Community College SystemDemonstrated ability to use modern instructional technology (Microsoft Office, learning management systems – LMS, e‑mail, Internet, student information databases, library research databases) and experience with Internet‑based instructionCompetence in oral and written communication skills is necessary for effective teachingAbility to be organized, accurate, and punctual with paperwork and assigned tasksSensitivity to the needs and expectations of students, colleagues, and community groupsAbility to make presentations to small or large audiencesAbility to establish and maintain effective, civil, and respectful communication and interpersonal relations throughout the college and the communityPersonal integrity, honesty, and the ability to maintain confidentialityFamiliarity with OSHA standards as they apply to educational environmentsAbility to communicate with supervisor on all implementations and decisions as they pertain to the programAbility to assess and evaluate programs to develop a progress reportBasic knowledge of Solid Works softwarePhysical Demands
