- Where Purpose Takes Flight! North Carolina Central University (NCCU), a historically Black university located in Durham, North Carolina, invites applications for a nine-month tenure‑track faculty position in the Department of Criminal Justice. The position starts fall 2025 and will be offered at the Assistant or Associate Professor level.
About the Department
The Department of Criminal Justice at NCCU is the largest academic unit on campus, serving nearly 600 undergraduate majors and over 50 graduate majors. It is the only undergraduate program in North Carolina certified by the NC Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission and the only HBCU program endorsed by the Academy of Criminal Justice. The department also hosts the Institute for Homeland Security and Emergency Management and the Juvenile Justice Institute.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate and graduate criminal justice courses, including in‑person, online, and hyflex formats, with a focus on statistical and research methods.
- Develop and assess curriculum and learning outcomes at both levels.
- Mentor graduate students on theses and projects.
- Conduct peer‑reviewed research, publishing regularly, and pursue externally funded projects, including collaborations with the department’s institutes.
- Participate in service activities at the department, college, and university levels, including committee service.
Qualifications
- Doctorate in Criminal Justice or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of 18 doctoral‑level hours in Criminal Justice or a related discipline.
- ABD candidates and Juris Doctorates are not considered.
- Demonstrated experience or potential in teaching, research, and service at a faculty level.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Specialization in Research Methods and Statistics.
