Salary Range (Monthly): $4,100 - $5,595 WITH BACHELOR'S DEGREE; BASED ON EXPERIENCE

Purpose

To plan, organize and present instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Management of Instructional Time – The teacher has materials, supplies, and equipment for each lesson ready at the start of the lesson or instructional activity; gets the class started quickly; gets students on task quickly at the beginning of each lesson; maintains a high level of student time‑on‑task.
  • Management of Student Behavior – The teacher has established a set of rules and procedures that govern routine administrative matters, verbal participation, and movement in the classroom; frequently monitors behavior during whole‑class, small‑group, and seat‑work activities and during transitions; stops inappropriate behavior promptly and consistently while maintaining student dignity.
  • Instructional Presentation – The teacher begins the lesson with a review of previous materials, introduces objectives, speaks fluently and precisely, presents using clear concepts, provides relevant examples and demonstrations, assigns tasks with high success rates, asks appropriate questions, keeps a brisk pace while pacing, makes smooth transitions, ensures clarity of assignments, and summarizes main points at the end.
  • Instructional Monitoring of Student Performance – The teacher maintains clear, firm, reasonable standards and due dates; circulates during class work to check all students’ performance; routinely uses oral, written, and other work products to assess progress; poses questions clearly and one at a time.
  • Instructional Feedback – The teacher provides feedback on in‑class work to encourage growth; offers prompt feedback on out‑of‑class work; affirms correct responses; sustains feedback after incorrect or no responses by probing, repeating, giving a clue, or allowing more time.
  • Facilitating Instruction – The teacher has an instructional plan compatible with school and system‑wide goals, uses diagnostic information for objectives and tasks, maintains accurate records, aligns objectives, strategies, assessment and student needs, and utilizes available resources to support the program.
  • Interacting Within the Educational Environment – The teacher treats all students fairly, interacts effectively with students, co‑workers, parents, and community.
  • Performing Non‑Instructional Duties – The teacher carries out non‑instructional duties as assigned, follows established policies and regulations, and demonstrates growth through a professional development plan.
Additional Job Functions

Performs other related work as required.

Minimum Training and Experience

Degree in education or a related area that qualifies for licensure as a teacher by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.

Minimum Qualifications or Standards Required to Perform Essential Job Functions
  • Physical Requirements: Must use a variety of equipment and classroom tools, lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects with negligible force; consistent with Light Work.
  • Data Conception: Ability to compare and judge characteristics of data, people, or things.
  • Interpersonal Communication: Ability to speak and/or signal people to convey information, including receiving instructions from superiors.
  • Language Ability: Ability to read, prepare correspondence, simple reports, forms, and instructional materials in prescribed format.
  • Intelligence: Ability to apply logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; interpret instructions mathematically or diagrammatically; deal with abstract and concrete variables.
  • Verbal Aptitude: Ability to record, deliver, and explain information; follow oral and written instructions; communicate in technical or professional languages including medical, legal, and counseling terminology.
