Serves as Chief Academic Officer under the authority and supervision of the President; ensures that instructional programs meet the educational attainment and workforce development needs of the College’s service area and region; exercises responsibility for instructional activities, personnel, and fiscal management; encourages innovation and continuous improvement in all instructional programs and methods of delivery; develops and implements sound academic policies and procedures;
ensures that instructional programs maintain compliance with all applicable institutional and professional accreditation standards; provides direction and collaborative support for the instructional deans, support staff, and the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning; facilitates collaborations with educational, workforce development, and industry partners to advance the College’s instructional mission.
Essential and other responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Essential Functions
Provides strategic leadership for all academic divisions of the College through the development and administration of policies and procedures aimed at providing and supporting quality instruction.Supervises the effective and efficient delivery of the College’s instructional programs.Oversees institutional and programmatic accreditation for the College’s instructional areas to ensure compliance with all pertinent standards and requirements, substantive change policies, faculty credentialing, and continuous improvement processes.Ensures that all instructional programs are administered in accordance with North Carolina Community College System curriculum standards, policies, and procedures.Evaluates how effectively the College’s instructional programs are meeting local educational attainment and workforce development needs; proposes adding and/or closing instructional programs as needed.Participates as a member of the Executive Council to provide advice and implement initiatives.Supports the development, implementation, and evaluation of grants, special projects, and external funding initiatives related to instructional programs and workforce development.Stays abreast of emerging technologies, economic development initiatives and opportunities for new academic programs that support the College's mission and goals; provides leadership in developing, recommending and implementing new academic programs.Participates in the annual budget process to include planning, developing, and monitoring instructional budgets; oversees the preparation of annual adjunct faculty budget projections; responsible for allocation and monitoring of division-wide expenditures; coordinates mid‑year budget revisions and determines priorities to ensure that College learning goals are met.Participates in the development and execution of the institution's strategic plan.Oversees the process for Program Reviews for academic programs to ensure relevance, currency, and quality of programs at the College; regularly evaluates assessments of learning outcomes and performance measures and other student success metrics and develops strategies for improvements as needed.Supervises the development of course offerings.Manages fiscal, operation and human resources, including faculty and staff needs, equipment allocations, facility utilization and operational expenses.Promotes excellence in teaching and learning by supporting and evaluating the work performance and professional development of full‑time and part‑time faculty, academic administrators, direct reports, and support staff.Builds and sustains partnerships with secondary public and private schools to support cooperative dual enrollment programs and high school curriculum initiatives.Serves as a champion for initiatives that support student access and success, including alternative learning formats, and global education initiatives.Collaborates and sustains partnerships with four‑year colleges and universities to promote successful student articulation under the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement; seeks opportunities to develop bilateral articulation agreements for students in…
