Your Role as an Assistant Teacher

As an Assistant Teacher, you’ll work closely with the Lead Teacher to create a nurturing, safe, and educational classroom environment for infants, toddlers, or preschool‑age children. You’ll help implement play‑based learning activities, manage classroom routines, and provide individualized attention that supports each child’s social, emotional, and cognitive development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support daily routines including circle time, story time, snack, outdoor play, and rest time.
  • Assist with lesson planning and curriculum implementation based on children’s developmental needs and interests.
  • Supervise children during classroom transitions, group play, and hands‑on activities.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized classroom environment in accordance with state licensing regulations.
  • Encourage independence, self‑help skills, and social interaction through positive guidance strategies.
  • Observe and document children’s behavior and milestones for communication with families and the teaching team.
  • Provide age‑appropriate support for infants, toddlers, or preschoolers, depending on assigned classroom.
  • Collaborate with other teachers and staff to create a supportive, inclusive early childhood learning environment.
Qualifications
  • Previous experience in child care, preschool, daycare, or toddler education (preferred).
  • Understanding of child development principles and developmentally appropriate practices (DAP).
  • Friendly, patient, and enthusiastic about working with young children.
  • Strong communication skills and a team‑oriented mindset.
  • Ability to multitask, follow classroom structure, and adapt to children’s needs.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • CDA certification or enrollment in Early Childhood Education courses (preferred but not required).
