Position Summary

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks a creative, committed, and collaborative professional to serve as Assistant Director in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. This admissions officer will counsel students, parents, and school and community colleagues about how students may explore whether Carolina will be a good match for their talents and aspirations, apply for admission and student aid, and thrive once enrolled.

The candidate will represent the University at on‑ and off‑campus events and collaborate with colleagues in admissions and other campus departments to develop and implement innovative methods of recruiting students whose talent, temperament, perspective, and experiences will contribute to the education of everyone in the UNC community.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Relevant post‑baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent). Candidates demonstrating comparable independent educational or instructional activities associated with the delivery and/or management of student support functions may be considered with a relevant bachelor’s degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and at least one year of relevant experience in substitution.

Required Qualifications , Competencies, and Experience

• Strong interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills.

Critical thinking, sound judgment, creativity, and a passion to help students overcome obstacles and realize their college‑going potential.

• Strong writing, public speaking, and presentation skills.

• Ability to work with both students and adults in a professional and courteous manner.

• Interest in engaging in admissions review and recruitment activities throughout the admissions seasons, including travel‑heavy months and application‑review months.

Preferred Qualifications , Competencies, and Experience

• One to two years of experience in admissions, recruitment, student aid, college access, education, or a related field.

• Proficiency in a second language, especially Spanish or Mandarin.

Campus Security Authority Responsibilities

This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. The assistant director will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
