Job Title:

Teaching Fellow in Political Theory (Level 7) – Fixed Term, Full Time – Contract Duration:
One year – Closing date: 14 Jul 2026.

• Teach modules at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, primarily in Political Theory, with potential teaching in adjacent fields.
• Develop, plan, and design teaching materials and deliver an inclusive curriculum.
• Lead some aspects of modules and collaborate with colleagues on course development.
• Support student learning, provide feedback, assessment, and supervision.
• Engage with curriculum development and contribute to CPD/educational skill development.
• Participate in departmental committees, sector networks, and professional bodies.
• Conduct scholarship and academic writing; develop online teaching resources.
• Manage administrative roles assigned by the Head of Department.
• Foster a collegial, respectful, and inclusive working environment.
• Engage in wider citizenship to support the department and discipline.
• Attend training and development courses to support professional growth.

• Good first degree in Politics or a closely related subject.
• Demonstrable ability to teach courses in Political Theory.
• PhD (or close to submission) in Political Theory or related subject, or equivalent practitioner experience.
• Experience of teaching and examining at university level with positive student feedback.
• Experience of contributing to the development and delivery of high‑quality teaching and assessment.
• Demonstrable ability to participate in collegial and administrative activities.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Experience of developing innovative teaching methods for high‑quality delivery.
• Experience in an administrative role within an organisation or department.
• Experience of providing high‑quality one‑to‑one student supervision.
• Evidence of work undertaken in preparation for teaching and staying up to date with developments, including:
• Active membership of a professional body.
• Demonstrable innovation in educational practice.
• Publications in a scholarly journal or relevant professional publication.
• Presentations at internal and external seminars or regional conferences.
• Ability to attain the rank of Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA). (Optional)
