Job DescriptionReports to: Principal
Supervises: May coordinate and direct the activities of teacher assistants.
Purpose: To plan, organize and present instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development.
Responsibilities- Management of Instructional Time: The teacher prepares materials and equipment for each lesson and starts class promptly, keeping students on task.
- Management of Student Behavior: The teacher establishes rules and procedures for class participation, verbal behavior, and movement, monitors behavior during all activities and stops inappropriate behavior promptly while maintaining student dignity.
- Instructional Presentation: The teacher reviews prior material, introduces objectives, delivers content clearly, uses examples and demonstrations, assigns tasks with high success rates, asks appropriate questions, maintains a brisk pace, manages transitions, ensures assignments are clear, and summarizes key points.
- Instructional Monitoring of Student Performance: The teacher sets clear work standards and due dates, circulates during class to check performance, uses oral and written assessments to gauge progress, and asks questions one at a time.
- Instructional Feedback: The teacher provides feedback on in‑class work and out‑of‑class assignments, affirms correct responses, and offers constructive prompts after incorrect or no responses.
- Facilitating Instruction: The teacher has an instructional plan aligned with school and system goals, uses diagnostic data to revise objectives, maintains accurate records, aligns objectives with learning strategies and assessments, and utilizes resources to support instruction.
- Interacting Within the Educational Environment: The teacher treats all students fairly and interacts effectively with students, co‑workers, parents, and the community.

Degree in education or related field acceptable for licensure by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
Minimum Qualifications or Standards- Physical Requirements: Must be able to use various equipment and tools, lift and move objects with light effort, and stand/walk for extended periods.
- Data Conception: Ability to compare and judge characteristics of data, people, or objects.
- Interpersonal Communication: Ability to convey information, receive instructions, and communicate effectively.
- Language Ability: Ability to read and prepare correspondence, reports, handbooks, forms, and instructional materials.
- Intelligence: Ability to apply logical or scientific thinking to define problems, gather data, establish facts, and draw conclusions.
- Verbal Aptitude: Ability to record and deliver information, explain procedures, and follow oral and written instructions.
- Numerical Aptitude: Ability to use mathematical formulas, perform calculations, and apply statistical principles.
- Form/Spatial Aptitude: Ability to inspect items for proper dimensions.
- Motor Coordination: Ability to coordinate hand and eye movements rapidly and accurately when using office equipment.
- Manual Dexterity: Ability to handle office equipment and hand tools with adequate coordination.
- Color Discrimination: Ability to differentiate colors and shades.
- Interpersonal Temperament: Ability to cope with stress and emergency situations.
- Physical Communication: Ability to talk, hear, and use telephone communication.
