Duke University seeks an Athletic Academic Coordinator who will provide holistic academic services, monitor and support a caseload of student‑athletes, and assist in academic coaching. The coordinator will work primarily with football student‑athletes and one additional athletic team, maintaining open communication with coaches, staff, and adherence to NCAA, conference, and institutional regulations.
Essential Functions- Utilize research‑based learning strategies to identify and implement appropriate academic interventions to improve student outcomes with reading, writing, time management, and study skills.
- Counsel students on matriculation/graduation requirements, registration, and institutional policies.
- Participate in recruiting visits with prospective student‑athletes.
- Maintain knowledge of NCAA and institutional rules concerning continuation and eligibility requirements.
- Monitor the academic progress of student‑athletes; assess student‑athlete academic performance and its impact on NCAA/institutional progress toward degree and eligibility.
- Meet with first‑year and at‑risk student‑athletes weekly to aid in transition to Duke.
- Refer student‑athletes to campus and athletics department resources when appropriate (e.g., Tutoring, Writing Studio, Academic Resource Center).
- Serve as academic coordinator for one additional assigned sport.
- Work with academic advisors and deans to support student‑athletes in their Duke experience.
- Communicate regularly with coaches and other support staff of assigned sport.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Ability to anticipate issues, assess pertinent data, and develop/implement practical solutions to complex issues.
- High degree of self‑motivation, work ethic, organization, attention to detail, and productivity, with ability to manage time, set and meet deadlines, and independently follow through on duties.
- Project genuineness and warmth as a service‑oriented communicator.
- Anticipate student needs and act to address them.
- Ability to communicate and work collaboratively within the football academic support team and within the student‑athlete support unit.
- Member of the department's academic support unit reporting to Jacqueline Davis, Director of Academic Services.

- Master’s degree in counseling, social work, education, student development, athletic administration, or related field.
- Experience as an academic advisor, learning specialist, instructor, or counselor.
- Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse population of students, coaches, and university partners.
- Flexible schedule to meet the needs of a unique, diverse group of students.
Education: Master’s degree in counseling, education, student development, athletic administration, or related field.
Experience: Two years of experience in academic advising, teaching, or counseling at the university level, or a combination of relevant education and experience, with demonstrated ability to work with a diverse population of students, coaches, and university administrators.
Compensation and BenefitsAnticipated pay range: USD $48,960.00 to $77,928.00. Compensation includes comprehensive medical and dental care programs, generous retirement benefits, and a wide array of family‑friendly and cultural programs.
