SEN Learning Support Assistant

We’re currently recruiting for Learning Support Assistants to work across welcoming secondary schools in Durham
, starting in September on a term-time basis.
As a Learning Support Assistant, you’ll support students across multiple Key Stages, helping them to access learning, build confidence, and achieve their full potential. You’ll work closely with teachers and SEND teams to provide tailored classroom support, whether working one-to-one, with small intervention groups, or supporting the whole class.
This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about education and making a positive difference to the lives of young people. Whether you have previous school experience or transferable skills from youth work, care, coaching, or mentoring, we’d love to hear from you.
Learning Support Assistant ResponsibilitiesYour main responsibilities will include:
- Supporting students across Key Stages 3 and 4 within the classroom
- Providing one-to-one and small group support to help pupils achieve their learning goals
- Assisting teachers with lesson delivery and classroom organisation
- Encouraging student engagement, confidence, and independence
- Supporting students with additional learning needs, including SEND where required
- Promoting positive behaviour in line with the school’s behaviour policy
- Building positive relationships with students, staff, and parents where appropriate
- Monitoring student progress and providing feedback to teaching staff
Following all safeguarding procedures and school policies

- Recent experience working with young people, ideally within education, youth work, care, coaching, or mentoring
- A passion for supporting secondary-aged students to achieve their potential
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- A patient, adaptable, and positive approach
- Ability to build strong relationships with students and staff
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
