Assistant Professor of Coastal Processes

Tenure Status: Tenure Track

Department: Geological and Environmental Sciences - 250350

Minimum Qualifications
The candidate must have a Ph.D. in Environmental Science, Geology/Earth Science, Oceanography, Geoscience, or a closely related field at the time of appointment.

Areas of Interest (No Minimum Level Required)
Candidates must possess a strong commitment to undergraduate education, mentoring undergraduate research, and developing an externally funded research program.

We seek a candidate whose research broadly covers Coastal Processes. This candidate will develop and teach new upper-level courses on
1) Coastal Processes and
2) Physical Oceanography for majors to complement the current departmental curriculum.

Description of the Department or Unit
The Department of Geological and Environmental Sciences at Appalachian State University is undergraduate-only with 22 faculty members, more than 300 students majoring in geology or environmental science, with 9 degree concentrations divided between Geology and Environmental Science. The Department and the College of Arts and Sciences possess an array of analytical and field equipment that supports the research of 14 tenure-track faculty.

Appalachian State is a Masters-comprehensive and R2 university located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina and is a member of the University of North Carolina System.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Additional teaching responsibilities may include supporting one or more existing courses such as:
Geomorphology (GES 3333), research/field methods courses (GES 2750/2751/2752) depending on the candidate's area of expertise, or introductory lecture/lab courses (e.g., GES 1105).
