Organizational Unit Role

The Office of Undergraduate Admissions admits and serves an eligible, diverse student population regionally, nationally, and internationally. It embraces the university’s commitment to attain quality of students who can matriculate and graduate, maintains the integrity of the admissions process, and works to ensure eligible students have access to higher education.

Primary Purpose of Position

This position will support the Undergraduate Admissions Office’s commitment to recruiting, evaluating, and enrolling a talented and diverse student body to enable NCCU to achieve its mission.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Proven excellence in verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to present information in one‑on‑one settings and in small and large group situations to varied audiences.
  • Prioritize tasks, plan work within program goals, make thoughtful decisions, work independently as needed.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Applications:
    Word, PowerPoint, Excel.
  • Experience in using a student information system (BANNER, DATATEL, Admission Pros, etc.).
  • Excellent customer service, oral communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and projects.
  • Review and manage student applications, including contacting applicants and ensuring on‑time submission of required components.
  • Implement recruitment strategies.
  • Commitment to working with diverse populations.
  • Maintain accuracy and confidentiality of all information, files, and records via the BANNER system.
  • Be able and willing to travel frequently.
Minimum Education /Experience

Bachelor’s degree with at least 2 years of admissions experience preferred. Degree must be from an accredited institution. Experience involving public contact, oral and written communication, and interpretation of policies and procedures in higher education, teaching, student services, or related capacity preferred. Valid driver’s license required.

Work Location

Fully On‑site (dedicated office at Duty Station).

Primary Responsibilities and Duties
  • Student recruitment and data functions with the Office of Undergraduate Admissions: review, authenticate, and make official admissions decisions.
  • Conduct research on assigned territories, perform analysis of admissions eligibility, and implement recruitment strategies including high school and community college visits.
  • Manage additional recruitment market area:
    State of South Carolina, serve as MAR (Eagle In Flight) Coordinator involved in data management and student/family follow up.
  • Increase responsibilities with admissions processing: make decisions for additional alphabets.
  • Serve as Alumni Liaison for scheduling and conducting HEART training for alumni, faculty, and staff; maintain data, certify trainees, and respond to admissions material requests.
