Position Summary
The High School Mathematics Teacher is responsible for creating a rigorous, engaging, and student-centered learning environment that promotes mathematical understanding, critical thinking, problem-solving, and real-world application. The teacher delivers standards-aligned instruction, monitors student progress, differentiates learning to meet diverse student needs, and collaborates with colleagues, families, and administrators to support student achievement and well-being.
The successful candidate demonstrates a commitment to academic excellence, equity, innovation, and continuous professional growth while fostering positive relationships with students and the school community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Instruction and Learning- Plan and deliver engaging, standards-based mathematics instruction aligned with district and state curriculum.
- Teach assigned mathematics courses, which may include advanced mathematics courses.
- Develop lessons that promote conceptual understanding, mathematical reasoning, and problem-solving.
- Differentiate instruction to address varying learning styles, abilities, and student needs.
- Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, technology tools, and evidence-based practices to increase student engagement and achievement.
- Incorporate real-world applications and interdisciplinary connections into mathematics instruction.
- Foster a classroom culture that encourages inquiry, collaboration, perseverance, and intellectual curiosity.
- Design and administer formative and summative assessments to measure student learning.
- Analyze assessment data to inform instruction and improve student outcomes.
- Maintain accurate and timely records of student attendance, grades, and academic progress.
- Provide meaningful, timely feedback to students.
- Develop intervention and enrichment opportunities based on student performance.
- Establish and maintain a safe, respectful, inclusive, and productive learning environment.
- Implement effective classroom management strategies that promote student responsibility and positive behavior.
- Maintain high expectations for student conduct and academic integrity.
- Collaborate with teachers, instructional coaches, counselors, special education staff, and administrators to support student success.
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and concerns.
- Participate actively in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), department meetings, faculty meetings, and school committees.
- Support school initiatives and contribute to a positive school culture.
- Maintain current knowledge of mathematics content, instructional best practices, and educational technology.
- Participate in professional development activities and apply new learning to instructional practice.
- Comply with all district policies, state regulations, and professional ethical standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or designee.
Qualifications
Required Education- Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, Secondary Education, or a closely related field.
- Valid North Carolina state teaching certification/licensure in Secondary Mathematics or eligible for North Carolina teaching license.
- Master's degree in Mathematics, Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or related field.
- Experience teaching multiple levels of high school mathematics.
- Experience using instructional technology and digital learning platforms.
- Knowledge of differentiated instruction, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS).
