Primary Function of Organizational Unit
University College (UC) provides foundational academic experiences that engage students in their intellectual, personal, and professional development. University College fosters a supportive environment toward successful college transitions, academic achievement, and graduation.
Primary Purpose of Position
The Associate Vice Provost of University College serves as the chief academic and administrative leader responsible for advancing student success, retention, and academic progression for lower-division students and students who have not declared a major. Reporting directly to the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, with a dotted-line relationship to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management, the Associate Vice Provost establishes the strategic vision, priorities, and goals for University College and leads coordinated efforts to improve student persistence, engagement, and degree completion.
The position provides oversight of undergraduate academic advising, academic coaching, peer mentoring, and other centralized academic support services designed to help students define educational and career goals and develop pathways for success. The Associate Vice Provost also provides comprehensive administrative oversight for fiscal management, personnel, professional development, academic services, and operational activities while fostering collaboration across academic and enrollment units.
Additionally, the position represents the University in external initiatives, including community engagement, partnership development, fundraising, and other strategic activities that advance the mission and goals of University College.
