Position Overview

The High School team currently consists of two High School Program Coordinators who work collaboratively to plan, implement and evaluate our daily programming and summer program for 200 high school students & families. The ideal candidate for this position demonstrates a passion for Student U’s mission and core values, high school students, and working collaboratively towards student success. This position reports to the Chief Program Officer.

In partnership with additional Student U staff, the team conducts research for new high school initiatives by analyzing local and national best practices, and develops ambitious goals and innovative ideas to push the high school program forward. One of the goals specific to this position is to grow and develop programming specific to students’ academic readiness for college. As a member of our full-time staff, the High School Program Coordinator participates in all staff meetings, professional development, and special projects across departments.

Responsibilities

Program Planning & Coordination
  • Plan & implement high school-wide events, which currently include by are not limited to U Prep Days and cluster meetings
  • Oversee the Summer Academy Program including:
    • Recruitment, selection and training of part-time staff (Teachers, High School Program Assistant, and Dean of Students)
    • Supporting students’ summer academic learning & social-emotional growth
    • Co-coordinating program-wide and high school events
  • Oversee 8th Grade Transition:
    • Lead the development and implementation of existing and new programming to best support 8th grade students’ transition into high school and high school programming, including but not limited to leading transition meetings and planning and implementing 8th Grade Meet and Greet and Transition Dinner.
  • Co-Lead High School Year Round Programming:
    • Co-managing High School After school Programming on Tuesday and Thursday evenings
  • Co-Lead Advocate Program:
    • Recruit & select a of team of 15-20 High School Advocates
    • Develop high quality professional development and utilize management strategies to support advocates in supporting students towards high school graduation & college enrollment
    • Develop the necessary tools and systems for advocates to track student progress
    • Co-lead Advocate Staff meetings
  • Develop new programs as necessary.
Part-Time Staff Management
  • Lead recruitment and selection process of all high school summer academy staff positions and co-lead the recruitment and selection process of all year-round high school program part-time staff.
  • In collaboration with full-time program staff, co-lead the creation of and implementation of all year-round and summer academy part-time staff trainings.
  • Co-manage and support high school part-time staff (specifically the team of advocates, Summer High School Program Assistant, and the Dean of Students).
  • Oversee professional development and evaluation of high school advocates and summer staff.
