Qualifications

Required:

  • Passion for informal education, particularly related to science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), computational thinking, and/or design thinking
  • Ability to develop a research-informed workplan for a program of work, including the design and execution of a set of services/offerings
  • Ability to engage with children and adults in a friendly, professional manner
  • Ability to work independently and within a team
  • Ability to make decisions and delegate responsibilities in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to prioritize and orchestrate a portfolio of sub-projects to multiple audiences, deadlines, and objectives
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills
  • Experience in working on and/or managing grant-funded programs, including federal, state, and privately funded grants
  • Experience with and knowledge of environmental justice issues
  • Creativity, dependability, flexibility and enthusiasm
  • Must be able to travel distances of up to one mile over varying terrains and lift up to 25lbs
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Experience developing and implementing inquiry-based, materials-rich curriculum for children, families and/or adults
  • Experience working in a museum or other informal educational setting
  • Experience working with children or adults with different abilities
  • Experience working with rural communities and/or Indigenous communities
  • Experience working with science professionals, researchers, or academics
  • Experience developing proposals for grants
  • Knowledge or experience with best practices in science communication
  • Public speaking and seminar experience
  • Experience working with graduate and/or undergraduate students on community-engaged scholarship
  • Experience in science writing, technical writing, and proposal editing
  • College degree in a related subject
  • Fluency in language other than English (with particular interest in Spanish)
General E&E Responsibilities
  • Conception, development, prototyping, and delivery of experiences and programs for visitors, including informal, on-the-floor programs for visitors, off-site programs, and special programs as they arise
  • Work within a budget for grant-funded programs
  • Support inductive and deductive social science research projects, which could include interviewing, facilitating focus groups, and engaging in community-driven inquiry processes
  • Work with the E&E team to develop short and long-term goals for the department
  • Work on cross-departmental teams as needed
  • Weekend and some evening work required
  • Other job-related duties as needed
  • Develop the plan for a program of work, including:
    • Research of learning context and rationale
    • Research of target audiences and needs
    • Management of a budget for the program of work
    • Manage short- and long-term project timelines
  • Communicate with external partners to deliver programs within scope of work
