Position: Electrical Systems Commissioning Technician (Microgrid, Battery Energy Storage System (BESS))

Power Secure Inc. is seeking a Technical Oversight Engineer who will manage commissioning and field engineering activities for our Distributed Infrastructure Systems. The role serves as the primary liaison among the client, Power Secure engineering, service, and operations teams to ensure quality, timely field vetting of these systems. The engineer will establish and enforce clear processes and procedures, maintain high decision quality, and consistently deliver customer-focused solutions.

Minimum Qualifications
  • HS Diploma or equivalent.
  • 6+ years of commercial/industrial experience with generators, ATS, and/or switch gear.
  • Experience with PLC, generator controllers, and protective relays.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to pass background check and drug screen.
  • Willingness to travel overnight for extended periods (75%‑95% of the time).
  • Commissioning experience is a plus.
  • NFPA 70 Arc Flash certification preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools and Outlook email/calendar.
  • Advanced understanding of AC/DC electrical theory.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Accurately document on‑site changes to as‑shipped drawings and settings files.
  • Program and edit PLCs, generator controllers, and protective relays.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of power distribution systems, switch gear, generator critical applications, circuit path configuration, and phase conversions.
  • Follow project scopes to prevent scope creep.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules.
  • Possess strong written and verbal English skills.
  • Understand and troubleshoot electrical schematics, identify design errors, and improve overall system efficiency.
  • Assist in development and execution of engineering change notices.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with coworkers and customers via phone, email, and in person.
Duties May Include but Are Not Limited To
  • Serve as liaison to factory engineering groups regarding field issues during site start‑up and commissioning.
  • Engage in complex field start‑ups, providing quality and engineering oversight.
  • Support Power Secure Service Technicians on complex start‑ups via phone or onsite assistance.
  • Control on‑site engineering changes to drawings and settings files.
  • Effectively communicate open action items and develop initiatives for action planning and task assignment.
  • Assist in drafting written commissioning and testing plans to ensure effective system start‑ups.
  • Facilitate communication between project management and engineering to maintain scope and schedule integrity.
  • Build strong relationships with project management, design engineers, and the service department to support product improvement initiatives.
  • Assist in field retrofit projects.
  • Lead complex system customer witness testing within the manufacturing facility.
  • Escalate quality or schedule issues to leadership promptly, ensuring customer satisfaction while minimizing costs.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Travel required (75%‑95% of the time).
  • Move materials and equipment weighing ~40 lbs.
  • Work on industrial equipment such as switch gear/switchboards, diesel and gas generators, and around metal welding, forming, and cutting.
  • Work both outdoors and in indoor office settings; withstand temperature extremes with reasonable accommodations.
  • Operate at a desk for 8 hours per day.
  • Use fine motor skills to operate digital equipment, including computers and PLCs, protective relays, and other controls.
