Description Of WorkThis is an Engineering Supervisor II position with the Signal Equipment Design Group of the ITS & Signals Management Section of the Transportation Systems Management & Operations (TSMO) Unit. This is a journey level professional supervisory position responsible for the independent application of professional techniques & standards in the preparation of moderate to complex electrical and programming plans which are a component of traffic signal plans, specifications, & estimates (PS&Es) for deployment on the NC Highway System.
Provides professional expertise in the area of traffic signal design, materials, and contract administration and assists in solving complex traffic engineering problems. Monitors project workload in order to meet deadlines, goals & objectives for traffic signal plans, specifications, & estimates (PS&E) performed in-house & by private engineering firms (PEFs). Coordinates PEF signal design contracts. This position is also responsible for periodic review of electrical and programming plans prepared by Private Engineering firms.
Provides input regarding design standards for quality of work & performs final technical reviews of traffic signal electrical and programming details with the authority to accept or reject.
This position currently qualifies for a hybrid telework option with routine office and remote workdays. Telework options are subject to change at the discretion of management.

Salary Grade: NC22 Salary Range: $73,096-$142,538
Management Prefers Applicants With The Following- Knowledge and understanding of the principles and practices of engineering as it relates to the design, construction, and maintenance of traffic signals.
- Demonstrated ability to oversee employees to ensure projects and tasks are completed efficiently and adhere to project timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
- Demonstrated ability to work with, collaborate with, and lead other engineers in the development of technical drawings and specifications.
- Experience working with local traffic signal controller software packages.
- Considerable knowledge and understanding of NCDOT concepts, practices, standards, and theories as they relate to traffic signal design.
Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience including two (2) years of supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualification May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
