Job Summary: The Facility/Environmental Engineer is a hands‑on, technically skilled professional responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating activities related to the design, construction, modification, and maintenance of buildings, grounds, and machinery supporting industrial manufacturing. This role leads both directly and through subordinate engineers, while also owning all regulatory compliance and reporting activities associated with facility environmental requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Facilities Management & Capital Projects
    • Direct all contractor and improvement efforts associated with buildings and grounds.
    • Oversee and coordinate contractor qualification requirements for the facility.
    • Coordinate permitting and regulatory requirements for new designs, expansions, or modifications to buildings and grounds.
    • Maintain facility equipment asset inventory directly or through subordinates.
  • Plant Maintenance Support & Reliability
    • Spend approximately 50% of assigned time working directly with Plant Maintenance on the plant floor to support equipment reliability, failure analysis, maintenance planning, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement efforts.
    • Collaborate and assist, as needed, in the implementation of engineering projects.
  • Environmental Compliance & Reporting
    • Maintain facility environmental permitting and licensing requirements.
    • Track, document, and report all facility waste generation.
    • Implement and maintain the SPCC (Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure) plan as required.
Essential Job Functions
  • Direct and coordinate facilities engineering projects from scoping through completion, ensuring on‑time, on‑budget delivery.
  • Manage and qualify contractors supporting building, grounds, and infrastructure improvements.
  • Coordinate all permitting with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies for facility modifications and expansions.
  • Maintain a current and accurate inventory of all facility equipment assets.
  • Partner daily with Plant Maintenance to drive equipment reliability, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement.
  • Maintain, renew, and ensure compliance with all environmental permits and licenses applicable to the facility.
  • Execute waste tracking, documentation, and regulatory reporting in accordance with applicable laws and internal policies.
  • Own and maintain the facility’s SPCC plan, ensuring readiness for regulatory inspection.
  • Support cross‑functional engineering initiatives and capital projects as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering is required.
  • Proven project management ability in an industrial environment.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple projects and manage competing priorities.
  • Effective communication skills with management, contractors, regulators, and operations personnel.
  • Demonstrated leadership through influence, mentoring, and technical expertise.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities, schedules, and regulatory requirements.
  • Working knowledge of engineering design and documentation software (e.g., AutoCAD, Solid Works, or similar).
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents, drawings, and governmental regulations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • High level of accountability, dependability, and follow‑through.
  • Innovative, resourceful approach to engineering and compliance challenges.
  • DOT Hazardous Materials Transportation Certification (preferred or ability to obtain).
  • Hazardous/Toxic Waste Management Certification (preferred or ability to obtain).
  • Lean certification preferred.
Physical Requirements
  • Routinely lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision and depth perception.
  • Routinely reach with hands and arms; use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
  • Frequently required to stand and walk on the plant floor.
  • Occasionally required to sit, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
  • Ability to talk and hear in a manufacturing environment.
