The Life Science Innovation group at Client Technologies and Innovation is seeking a highly talented engineer to develop innovative solutions that address current and future health care needs in infectious disease diagnostics. The associate will work as a member of a multidisciplinary team developing technologies for the global infectious disease diagnostics market. Responsibilities include developing, building and testing microfluidic devices and related components for biological sample purification, evaluating designs for manufacturability, transitioning prototype designs to validation level devices, developing test methods and fixtures to characterize systems, and supporting device validation within a one‑year temporary contract.

Responsibilities
  • Design, implementation and testing of microfluidic and/or electro‑mechanical systems
  • Develop tests and fixtures to evaluate performance and develop release criteria for microfluidic and/or electro‑mechanical systems
  • Transition prototype designs and assembly procedures to validation level devices and procedures
  • Conduct device performance tests with biological samples
  • Review and provide input into acceptance criteria for technical specifications
  • Communicate progress, results, conclusions and test steps to team and management
  • Keep lab notes, data and experimental observations in lab book
  • Demonstrate strong personal accountability for completion of project milestones and deliverables
  • Work independently, receiving technical guidance on complex problems and supervisory approval on proposed plans for projects
Qualifications
  • BS or greater in Biology, Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related degree
  • 3–5 years of medical device experience; experience with disposable microfluidic devices strongly preferred
  • Experience with material selection, device assembly, injection molding, machining practices and electro‑mechanical assemblies
  • Experience in manufacturing process development, validations and qualifications
  • Experience designing automated or semi‑automated system tests preferred
  • Experience with 3D CAD and drafting (preferably Solid Works modeling)
  • Proficiency with equipment/fixture fabrication and machine shop skills
  • Self‑motivation, focus, determination, self‑reliance, open‑mindedness, amiability and flexibility
  • Ability to work effectively within the project team and cross‑functional organization
  • Working knowledge with biological samples and BSL2 environment a plus
