Job DescriptionThe Digital Engineering Technician works as part of the client Digital Engineering (DE) 3D Printing & Prototyping team, contributing to next‑generation medical product development and enhancing the current product portfolio.
General Function- The 3D Printed Part Finisher will provide quality “finished” 3D printed parts and/or components/fixtures to business customers in a safe and timely manner.
- Assist the 3D Printing & Prototyping management team by performing routine maintenance and contributing to R&D of 3D printing applications where required.
- Maintain a dynamic work environment and adapt quickly to changing priorities.
- Clean 3D printed parts according to defined standard operating procedures.
- Hand finish 3D printed parts using defined techniques while maintaining feature geometry and checking tolerances on key dimensions.
- Use precision measurement devices (e.g., digital calipers, GOM) to ensure dimensional accuracy.
- Operate 3D printing equipment when performing routine and rotational maintenance to produce accurate medical device prototypes.
- Maintain proficiency in viewing model files using CAD software (e.g., Magics by Materialise).
- Maintain finishing supplies in the laboratory and evaluate special supplies, techniques, and equipment that may improve quality part finishing.
- Perform work following standard operating procedures.
- Work in accordance with Good Laboratory Practices, observe all BDTI Safety and Quality Standards, and maintain laboratory notebooks according to BDTI SOPs.
- Wear proper safety equipment where required.
- Contribute as needed in the R&D of 3D printing applications.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma is required.
- Experience with 3D printed part post‑processing or machining or a combination of equivalent education and experience is preferred.
- Experience with 3D printing (SLA, DLS, DLP, Poly Jet, FFF) is a strong plus.
- Proven computer experience, including CAD software, is desired.
- Organized and time‑oriented individual who can contribute to quick turnaround while ensuring fine detail and accuracy.
- Open to exploring new techniques related to 3D printing & prototyping or DE‑related areas.
- Proven ability to work successfully in both team and individual settings.
- Clear verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to lift at least 40 lbs.
- Self‑starter who proactively seeks and defines next tasks.
- Effective team player with clear communication skills (written & verbal).
- Attention to detail and willingness to identify and alert others to problems.
- Enjoys working with hands, cleaning, sanding, and handling small plastic 3D printed parts.
- Willingness to explore new post‑processing techniques and take full ownership of tasks.
- Dedication and ownership of tasks are musts.
