OT SCADA Engineer

Overview

Cypress Creek Renewables is seeking a highly skilled OT SCADA Engineer to support, maintain, and enhance supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems across utility‑scale solar sites. The role ensures reliable monitoring, control, and secure communication between field devices and control centers using Ignition and Cimplicity, while maintaining OT cybersecurity practices with Palo Alto Networks firewalls and Cisco switching. It combines office/control‑room duties with field support, including occasional travel to solar sites and on‑call rotation for critical system support.

• SCADA Systems and Integrations
  • Design, configure, and maintain SCADA systems using Ignition and Cimplicity
  • Integrate solar plant equipment such as inverters, meters, trackers, and weather stations into SCADA
  • Support real‑time monitoring and control from a centralized control room
  • Develop HMI/GUI screens, dashboards, and alarm management systems
  • Troubleshoot SCADA communication protocols (Modbus TCP/IP, DNP3, OPC, SNMP)
  • Support upgrades, patching, and lifecycle management for SCADA and network systems
• Network and Infrastructure
  • Configure and maintain industrial networking infrastructure with Cisco switches
  • Implement VLANs, trunking, port security, and QoS for OT networks
  • Deploy and manage Palo Alto Networks firewalls for segmentation and cybersecurity compliance
• Monitoring and Troubleshooting
  • Monitor and respond to performance issues in network and SCADA systems
  • Collaborate with engineering, IT, and field teams for commissioning and integration of new sites
• Documentation and Compliance
  • Maintain system documentation, network diagrams, and configuration backups
  • Ensure compliance with cybersecurity standards such as NERC CIP, ISA/IEC 62443, or company policies

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience)
• 3+ years of experience in SCADA/OT environments, preferably in renewable energy
• Hands‑on experience with:
  • Ignition SCADA
  • Cimplicity (GE Digital)
  • Industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, DNP3, OPC
• Networking and Security experience:
  • Strong knowledge of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, routing, switching)
  • Experience configuring Cisco switches (e.g., Catalyst 2960/9300 series)
  • Experience with Palo Alto Networks firewalls (NAT, security policies, VPNs)
• Familiarity with OT cybersecurity best practices
• Familiar with RTAC, Emerson RX3i, or similar SCADA controller
• Alignment with Cypress Creek Renewables' mission and values

• Experience in utility‑scale solar or renewable energy systems
• Knowledge of power generation systems and inverter communications
• Experience with historian systems and data analytics tools
• Familiarity with virtualization platforms such as VMware or Hyper‑V
• Scripting or automation experience (Python, Power Shell)
• SCADA system design & troubleshooting
• Industrial networking & cybersecurity
• Real‑time data acquisition & control
• Problem‑solving in critical infrastructure environments
• Strong communication and documentation skills

This role is based in Durham, NC, with approximately 10% field travel and occasional on‑call availability during off‑shift hours and weekends as needed.
