Position Summary

The Tooling Engineer will analyze and investigate current tooling processes to support the overall tooling strategies. This role also supports current production needs, focusing on improving tool life and cutting efficiency.

Position Responsibilities
  • Create programs to regrind used round tools such as drills, reamers, and end mills for carbide and PCD material to ensure quality and lowest cycle time.
  • Develop a “Tool Regrind Workflow” system to ensure reground quality, prevent skipping and mixing drills for each plant, and train team members in the new processes.
  • Develop a system to inspect and record tool wear for each used tool to increase accuracy and efficiency.
  • Create a Regrind Inspection Report for all regrind tools.
  • Train team members to make proper adjustments for reground tool quality.
  • Support gear products by creating programs/inspections for new products, installing measurement programs on inspection machines, and training team members to read and understand gear measurement reports.
  • Work with Regrind GL and TM to monitor and improve daily productivity.
  • Ensure new tooling is accurately evaluated and analyzed for performance status.
  • Implement kaizens to improve tooling metrics.
  • Reduce tooling cost.
  • Create documentation for changes to processes and equipment.
Required

Skills And Abilities
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in an engineering role.
  • Strong demonstrable skills and knowledge of tooling processes.
  • Understanding of PFMEA, statistical probability, and root cause analysis.
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting/problem solving experience in an engineering role.
Education / Training / Certifications
  • BS in Engineering or equivalent experience.
