Job Description
The HVAC&R Technician is responsible for providing equipment troubleshooting and maintenance support for ongoing facility manufacturing operation and supporting growth initiatives at the site. The role involves developing standard operating procedures (SOPs) and preventative maintenance (PM) plans, maintaining written documentation of activities, managing SAP transactions and change control activities including spare part lists, and supporting plant engineering maintenance. The Technician collaborates closely with Operations, Quality, Automation, Technology, and other groups, and provides maintenance support for vaccine process equipment operations.
The goal is to assure high-quality products and services, optimal cost, and timely delivery, while driving continuous improvement and fostering an inclusive team culture.
A primary knowledge in the industrial HVAC&R environment is required, specifically industrial refrigeration systems that include DX systems, chillers, cascade refrigeration, freezers, air handlers, and cold boxes. HVAC&R troubleshooting skills are essential, with experience in GMP areas, room pressurization, and dehumidification systems. The candidate must read electrical prints, P&’s, and understand P& loops. Extensive industrial experience involving utility systems, HVAC, steam, potable water is necessary.
Knowledge of Siemens "APOGEE/Desigo" BAS is preferred.
- Utility Equipment (e.g., clean steam generators, water‑for‑injection generation/distribution, reverse osmosis skids, vapor compression stills, compressed gas systems)
- Automated Systems (e.g., distributed control system (DCS), programmable logic controllers (PLC))
- Maintenance Equipment (e.g., tools and calibration equipment)
- Lab equipment / instrument calibrations and maintenance; autoclaves and mechanical equipment
- HVAC / refrigeration systems, chilled water, glycol, plant steam and condensate systems
- Electrical distribution systems, motor control systems, generators, ATS systems, VFDs
- Ability to work with and troubleshoot complex process systems
- Routine maintenance tasks including diaphragm/gasket replacement, equipment lubrication, filter changes, rotating equipment inspection, and adjustments to process equipment
- Installation, testing, adjustment, maintenance, repair, calibration, and troubleshooting of complex automated process equipment
- Develop SOPs, engineering change requests (ECRs), PM plans/calibration procedures, task lists, etc.
- Use of SAP, Pro Cal, Lab X, PI for PM program compliance and equipment assessment
- Order and maintain spare parts for assigned process equipment in MRO system
- Interface with other departments, contractors, and disciplines for scheduling repairs and maintenance of equipment/utility systems
- Assist with execution of calibration, automation, validation and additional testing as required
- Document individual and team activities
- Complete preventive maintenance and calibration work orders, resolve deviations, and evaluate equipment performance
- Identify revisions, deletions, or additions to the calibration and maintenance programs to ensure compliance with safety, GMP, and established procedures
- Facilitate contractors by obtaining bids, reviewing contracts, supervising work execution, and following up on contract work including auditing of time and material reports
- Maintain schedule adherence and unplanned calibrations and maintenance; troubleshoot equipment and perform repairs; ensure compliance with hazardous energy control procedures
- Compliance with current good manufacturing procedures (cGMP), safety, and environmental requirements/regulations/guidelines/permitting
- Effective communication, strong leadership, planning, scheduling, and time‑management skills
- Provide clear, consistent communication from shift to shift
- Problem‑solving skills and ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
- Demonstrate mechanical aptitude, read P&'s, electrical drawings, and blueprints
- Proficient in hand and power tools, instruments, and testing apparatus commonly used in maintenance and instrumentation
