Primary Responsibilities
An engineering consulting organization is seeking an experienced power systems professional to provide technical leadership for a team responsible for advanced transmission and generation system studies. This position offers the opportunity to guide challenging projects, support client initiatives, and mentor engineering staff while delivering specialized analysis for utility and energy-sector customers.
The ideal candidate will possess strong subject matter expertise in transmission system design and analysis, including grounding, insulation performance, electromagnetic transient studies, power quality assessments, and high-voltage AC/DC systems. Success in this role requires a combination of technical excellence, project leadership, and client-facing communication skills.
- Direct and oversee complex electrical and power system studies supporting transmission and generation infrastructure projects.
- Conduct technical evaluations related to grounding systems, insulation performance, transient over voltages, AC interference, lightning effects, and other power system phenomena.
- Develop and validate detailed power system models using industry-standard engineering software.
- Interpret analytical results and present clear recommendations to clients and project stakeholders.
- Support project planning activities, scope development, technical proposals, and customer engagement efforts.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior and mid-level engineers.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams involved in protection engineering, system planning, and project implementation.
- Maintain compliance with applicable industry standards while ensuring consistent technical quality across projects.
Education & Experience
- Master's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience performing power system analysis and electrical design studies.
- Demonstrated success leading technically complex engineering assignments.
- Experience working directly with clients and presenting technical information to varied audiences.
- Ability to travel periodically for project meetings, workshops, or site-related activities.
Experience with one or more of the following software platforms:
- PSCAD
- EMTP-RV
- CDEGS
- PSS®E
- PSLF
- TARA
Additional experience with the following tools is considered beneficial:
- ASPEN One Liner
- CAPE
- SKM
- ETAP
- Power World
- Python or other engineering automation tools
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) or Professional Engineer of Canada (P.Eng.) designation.
- Background in protection system studies and/or transmission planning analysis.
- Experience supporting business development activities, proposal preparation, and client growth initiatives.
- Previous leadership or team management experience within a consulting, utility, or engineering services environment.
Travel is expected to be limited; however, candidates should be available to attend occasional client meetings, industry events, and project-related site visits as needed.
