We are seeking an initiative-taking and detail-oriented Payroll Manager to join our growing team. This individual will own the payroll process end-to-end using Paycom for approximately 150 employees across multiple states. As we expand, payroll may eventually cover up to 48 states. In addition to payroll responsibilities, this role will support transactional accounting tasks, including reconciliations, month-end close, accounts payable, and general ledger work.
Given our status as a publicly traded company, SOX compliance is a critical component of this position.
- Manage and process multistate payroll accurately and on time using Paycom.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax and regulations.
- Partner with HR on onboarding, terminations, and benefits enrollment.
- Maintain accurate payroll records and documentation for SOX compliance.
- Support month-end close activities, including reconciliations and journal entries.
- Assist with accounts payable and general ledger tasks as needed.
- Collaborate with finance and HR teams to resolve payroll-related issues promptly.
- Stay current on payroll laws and regulations to ensure compliance across all states.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 5 years or more in payroll.
- Proven experience managing complex, multi-state payroll operations.
- Proficiency in various payroll platforms and a deep understanding of core payroll processes.
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to de-escalate challenging situations and solve problems.
- Expertise in federal, state, and local tax laws, wage and hour regulations, and benefits compliance.
- Strong understanding of month-end close processes, including payroll related accruals.
- Ability to work independently, meet tight deadlines, and thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
- Preferred
Skills: - Experience with Paycom and SAP.
- Knowledge of SOX compliance and documentation requirements.
- Lift up to 25lbs on an occasional basis
- Stand, walk, sit on a frequent basis
- Communicate using hearing and speech on a frequent basis (in-person and/or virtual)
- Up to 10% of travel (as needed)
