As the Financial Management Analyst II, you will be a vital part of a collaborative, interdisciplinary team that supports research-active institutes, centers, and academic support units across the university.
Be Bold. As part of a dedicated team of financial professionals, you will play a central role in managing the finances of a select portfolio of research-active University Institutes & Centers and academic support units. Reporting to a Senior Financial Manager and collaborating closely with financial staff, you will serve as a strategic partner to unit leadership, ensuring strong financial stewardship, informed decision-making, and proactive operational support.
WhatYou’ll Do
- Financial Operations — 40%
- A Bachelor’s degree is required and forms the foundation for your financial decision-making.
- Review financial transactions for compliance and stewardship.
- Execute monthly financial activities including overdraft monitoring and reconciliation review.
- Complete annual effort certification.
- Ensure accurate Web Central space coding.
- Collaborate with CGMT on effort changes and project closeouts.
- Manage BFR structure, workflow, permissions, and fund codes.
- Review Provost, school, and endowment commitments.
- Financial Reporting — 35%
- Prepare monthly actuals.
- Build 1-year and 5-year projections.
- Produce quarterly problematic transaction reports.
- Develop funding projections with CGMT.
- Prepare payroll and vacation liability reports.
- Develop and communicate stewardship policies.
- Annual Budget — 20%
- Partner with leadership to develop and submit the annual budget.
- Other Financial Responsibilities — 5%
- Train and mentor unit staff.
- Participate in special projects.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or related field (required).
- Three years of financial management, cost accounting, or related experience.
- Research administration experience (essential); business manager experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of university financial systems and compliance.
- Analytical and communication skills with leadership partnership experience.
- Commitment to accuracy, stewardship, and collaboration.

Anticipated Pay Range: Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $62,694.00 to USD $. Offers consider scope and responsibilities, candidate experience, internal equity, and market factors.
