This is position is at Alexander Correctional Institution in Taylorsville, North Carolina. Alexander Correctional is a closed custody male facility with approximately 1,000 beds.
Work involves first-line supervision to Correctional Officer III’s in a close-custody institution with restrictive and controlled housing. Position reports directly to a Correctional Lieutenant III and/or the Correctional Housing Unit Manager.
Key Duties- Assigning lower-level custody staff to a particular area or post.
- Evaluating and overseeing officer activities and performance and ensuring that the custody, security, and welfare of offenders is maintained.
- Coordinating work schedules to ensure shift coverage, implementing standard operational procedures (SOPs) and ensuring rules and regulations are followed according to policy.
- Managing the facility on occasion of being the highest-ranking custody staff on the premises or the Officer-in-Charge (OIC).
- Ensuring that staff are fully trained and that proper conduct, actions, and procedures are being followed.
- Maintaining facility security through regular inspections to ensure compliance with governing regulations and standards relating to facility maintenance, health, and safety of offenders.
- Communicating effectively instructions/directions during drills, searches, and in emergencies situations.
- Responding to emergency situations such as; distress codes, escapes, and transportation of offenders.
- Conducting and/or supervising searches of offenders, offender living areas and work areas for contraband.
- Investigating and taking action when appropriate regarding security issues, incidents, disputes, and complaints.
- Preparing, reviewing reports and completing performance evaluations on subordinate staff.
