Hair Stylist
General Summary & Scope
The Elite Stylist is responsible for engaging with guests, consulting on hair care needs, and recommending products and services. The Elite Stylist delivers quality professional services with an emphasis on the guest’s total look and supports the Experience Manager (EM) and Assistant Services Manager (ASM). Focus areas include performance (service sales and productivity), people (guest service), and process (operating procedures and compliance standards).
PrincipalDuties & Responsibilities
Performance
- Perform hair services including hair design, haircuts, color, texture, hair treatments, styling, updos, perms, blowouts, keratin treatments, extensions, makeup applications, brow services, and ear piercing where applicable.
- Meet or exceed a $1,900 average weekly sales goal and productivity goals for hair services.
- Perform product demonstrations to drive sales and enhance the guest service experience.
- Support execution of in‑store events, promotions, and marketing initiatives.
- Stay informed about industry trends, products, and services.
- Maintain prompt, regular attendance.
People
- Develop guest relationships through consultations and appropriate retail and service recommendations.
- Serve all guests, including walk‑in guests, timely and efficiently.
- Partner with skin therapists and the retail team to provide a total‑store and well‑rounded guest experience.
- Establish professional peer and brand partner relationships.
- Promote the guest loyalty program, credit, and Ulta Beauty app.
- Attend mandatory trainings and meetings.
Process
- Be knowledgeable of and ensure compliance with Ulta Beauty’s policies, procedures, and standards.
- Follow all safety, sanitation, and infection control procedures and state board guidelines.
- Follow established service protocols.
- Utilize booking systems to schedule return services and events.
- Communicate supply needs to the Experience Manager.
- Maintain store operational standards, including cleanliness of salon, salesfloor, restrooms, backroom, and break area.
- Adhere to the Ulta Beauty dress code.
- Protect company assets by following loss prevention best practices.
- Execute other operational tasks as directed.
Education
- Cosmetology license.
Experience
- Previous relevant work experience is required.
Skills
- Proficiency with latest salon techniques for haircutting, hair color, lightening, styling, texture, treatment, extensions, makeup, brow services, and ear piercing where applicable; and/or aptitude to develop skills in all service categories.
- Proficiency with equipment and chemicals needed for technical work.
- Proficiency to demonstrate, recommend and sell professional hair care and makeup products.
- Developed communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to build and maintain strong customer relationships and clientele.
Position Requirements
- Work a flexible schedule to include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Continuous mobility during shift.
- Continuous lifting and/or moving up to 10 lbs. during shift.
- Frequent bending, reaching, and twisting during shift.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time during shift.
- Continuous coordination and manipulation of objects during shift.
