General Description:
This individual performs, under supervision, a variety of duties in accordance to department procedures, which may be related to the procurement, preparation, distribution and storage of drugs, as well as providing clinical pharmacy services to ensure safe medication use.
- Accurately and efficiently follow workflow procedures including prescription processing and medication preparation.
- Restock automatic dispensing cabinets and anesthesia workstations as needed.
- Answer and screen telephone calls and direct calls to appropriate personnel.
- Handle medications in accordance with department, regulatory and legal requirements.
- Collaborate with pharmacy team, insurance companies and customers to resolve issues and ensure accuracy.
- Assist with basic clinical functions in support of the clinical pharmacist (e.g., medication safety initiatives, patient follow up calls).
- Operate and provide technical support for specialty machinery and equipment (e.g., carousels, automated dispensing cabinets).
- Deliver medications and supplies to patient care and ancillary areas.
- Complete and document all safety and quality activities in compliance with department procedures.
- Prepare IV solutions using aseptic technique or compound non‑sterile medications at select locations.
- Assist with training new employees and students.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Education:
Pharmacy Tech I – high school diploma or equivalent and completion of an accredited pharmacy technician‑training program (or acceptance into pharmacy school). Pharmacy Tech II – same, with additional one year of related experience. - Experience:
Minimum of one year related experience for Pharmacy Tech II. - Licensure/Certification:
North Carolina Board of Pharmacy registration required for both levels;
Pharmacy Technician certification from PTCB or ExCPT required for Pharmacy Tech II.
