Public Health Educator II - Beaufort County Health Department General Work DescriptionThe primary purpose of this position is to serve as the Diabetes Coordinator for the Beaufort County Health Department, providing leadership for key chronic disease prevention initiatives. This role oversees the Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP), Diabetes Self-Management Education and Support (DSMES), and supports broader efforts aimed at improving community health outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate, plan, implement, and evaluate diabetes and chronic disease prevention programs
- Lead community outreach and education efforts, including health fairs and local events
- Develop and deliver health education programs for the public and community partners
- Support data collection and contribute to reporting for the Community Health Assessment (CHA) and the State of the County Health Report (SOTCH)
- Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of public health and public health education activities.
- General knowledge of modern educational theory and techniques in the field of public health education.
- General knowledge of journalistic principles and methods of preparing subject matter in the promotion of public health activities.
- General knowledge of display techniques and skill in the arrangement of exhibits.
- Ability to work effectively with people on all educational levels and to maintain effective working relationships with local health departments, community agencies, and the public.
- Ability to write and speak effectively and to stimulate interest and cooperation among various groups in carrying out a program in public health education.
Minimum
Education and Experience Requirements:
A master’s degree in public health education; or graduation from a four-year college or university with a major in health education and two years’ experience in public health education or a related field; or graduation from a four-year college or university and three years’ experience in public health education; or and equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid driver’s license
Hours of Work Monday-Friday 8am-5pm, however, there may be after hours and weekend work if necessary for Health Education and Promotion programs.
