About the LabThe Sulman Lab investigates fundamental mechanisms driving cancer development and progression, with the ultimate goal of identifying better treatments for patients. We employ advanced molecular biology approaches, functional genomic screening, single‑cell technologies, and our in‑house CARPOOL platform for high‑throughput drug evaluation.
Research Focus- Treatment resistance and radiation response
- Genetic and pharmacologic screens in cellular and organoid models
- Functional genomics and 3D chromatin profiling to study enhancer function
- Tissue processing and molecular analysis of patient‑derived samples
- Undergraduate degree completed by start of employment
- Prior laboratory research experience
- Intellectually passionate and able to display scientific initiative
- Candidates will gain the most from the experience if they are able to stay for more than 1 year of time, ideally 2 years or more
- Maintain an organized and complete lab notebook of experiments
- Propagate cells in culture; perform viability and clonogenic assays
- Establish and maintain cancer organoid cultures from human specimens
- Perform PCR, RT‑PCR, and Western blots on cell lines, tumor tissues, and mouse tissues
- Learn and implement advanced techniques: high‑throughput microscopy, confocal microscopy, flow cytometry
- Learn and implement next‑generation sequencing library preparation (analysis available for motivated candidates)
- Assist with mouse model experiments as needed
- Meet regularly with supervisor to plan experiments, troubleshoot, and discuss results
- Participate in lab meetings to present results or discuss literature
- Assist in recruiting new lab members and orienting them to lab research
- Help maintain reagents and equipment (e.g., buffers, ethanol)
- Contribute to a collegial laboratory environment
- Set up instruments, materials, and apparatus; operate standard laboratory equipment
- Participate in laboratory logistics: inspections, ordering, equipment repair

Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $22.61 to USD $34.27.
