About Duke Health's Patient Revenue Management Organization

Pursue your passion for caring with the Patient Revenue Management Organization, which is Duke Health's fully integrated, centralized revenue cycle organization that supports the entire health system in streamlining the revenue cycle. This includes scheduling, registration, coding, billing, and other essential revenue functions.

Responsibilities
  • Analyze insurance coverage and benefits for service to ensure timely reimbursement.
  • Obtain all Prior Authorization certifications and/or authorizations as appropriate.
  • Facilitate payment sources for uninsured patients and screen patients for government funding sources.
  • Admit, register and pre-register patients with accurate patient demographic and financial data.
  • Resolve insurance claim rejections/denials and remedy expediently.
  • Collect cash payments appropriately for all patients and reconcile daily cash deposits.
  • Explain bills according to PRMO credit and collection policies and implement appropriate collection actions.
  • Inform patients of financial liability prior to arrival for services and arrange payment options as needed.
  • Refer patients for financial counseling and determine necessity of third-party sponsorship.
  • Review insurance policies and other third-party sponsorship materials for sources of payment; update billing systems to reflect insurance status.
  • Communicate with insurance carriers regarding clinical information requested and to resolve issues relating to coverage and payment.
  • Assist with department coverage as requested and document billing system activity according to policy and procedure.
Qualifications
  • Excellent communication skills, oral and written. Ability to analyze data, perform multiple tasks, and work independently.
  • Ability to develop and maintain professional, service-oriented relationships with patients, physicians, co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to understand and comply with policies and procedures.
Level Characteristics
  • Position is expected to produce high volumes accurately in accordance with established processes or regulations.
  • Requires working knowledge of compliance principles and the ability to work independently.

Essential Physical

Education

Work requires knowledge of basic grammar and mathematical principles normally required through a high school education, with some postsecondary education preferred. Additional training or working knowledge of related business.

Experience

Two years of experience working in hospital service access, clinical service access, physician office or billing and collections; or an Associate’s degree in a healthcare-related field with one year of experience; or a Bachelor’s degree with one year of experience working with the public.
