university health & rehabilitation center - speech language pathologist

must be a graduate of a master’s program as a speech language pathologist slp, have taken the praxis or eligible to take it and have a state license to practice as one or eligible to apply for one.

duties/responsibilities:

hearing ability sufficient to evaluate residents' speech.

skill communicating verbally and in writing with residents and family members so that all parties understand the program and the degree of progress being made.

a skilled nursing facility (snf) slp job involves assessing and treating residents with communication, cognitive, and swallowing disorders, often related to strokes, neurological conditions, or age. Responsibilities include developing individualized therapy plans, collaborating with the healthcare team, documenting progress, and providing patient and family education for improved functional independence.

key responsibilities assessment and diagnosis:

evaluate residents for speech, language, cognitive, and swallowing (dysphagia) disorders.

treatment planning:

develop and implement individualized therapy plans to meet residents' specific rehabilitation goals.

interdisciplinary collaboration:

work closely with nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists, dietitians, and social workers to create a comprehensive and effective care plan.

documentation:

maintain thorough records of assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries.

patient and family education:

educate residents and their families about therapy goals, strategies to maximize quality of life, and appropriate diets for swallowing disorders.

palliative care:

provide support and education for patients and families facing end-of-life care, focusing on communication and swallowing needs.

key skills and qualifications:

a graduate degree in speech-language pathology from an accredited program.

a certificate of clinical competence (ccc).

strong clinical knowledge and experience in adult and geriatric care.

empathy, adaptability, and excellent communication and collaboration skills.
