Director, Data Architecture – Fidelity Charitable (L7)
The Role
Fidelity’s Charitable Technology team is seeking a skilled and highly motivated Architect to join our development team. The Director of Architecture will be instrumental in driving platform innovation, enabling the organization to stay on the cutting edge of digital philanthropy. This position is responsible for working across all Fidelity Charitable products and programs as a trusted advisor, providing direction and guidance on all aspects of technology delivery.
Working with business stakeholders, executive leadership, and agile development teams, you will help oversee the delivery of technology projects by developing architectural blueprints, technical proof of concepts, and solution designs. The role requires a mix of hands‑on implementation support and architectural design oversight.
- Define technology solutions that align with business program priorities.
- Collaborate with business and technology stakeholders to architect solutions and support implementation.
- Mentor and grow technology team members.
- Directly support agile development teams in developing solutions, engaging in both hands‑on coding and architectural oversight.
- Continuously improve technology craft—patterns, practices, tools and methods.
- Sharpen technology patterns and techniques based on evolving trends.
- Strong software architecture skills and a proven track record in delivering complex software systems.
- Experience with data warehousing, ELT, and modern data warehousing technologies.
- Knowledge of common data integration patterns and systems (e.g., Python Polars/Pandas dataframes, traditional ETL tools).
- Understanding of online analytics, reporting and visualization patterns, tools and practices.
- Familiarity with contemporary architecture patterns, practices and technologies (micro‑services, REST, single‑page applications).
- Experience with enterprise integration patterns to support back‑end processing.
- Understanding of cloud‑based infrastructure and Dev‑Ops practices.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build meaningful relationships with business and technology stakeholders.
- Hands‑on, pragmatic mindset with willingness to participate in code reviews and implementation design discussions.
- Strategic thinking with the ability to deliver tactically and execute on the vision.
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a technology‑related field (e.g., Engineering, Computer Science).
- 6+ years of experience in multiple IT areas, including analysis, design, evaluation, development, and implementation, with a focus on data and analytics.
- Systems integration pattern knowledge, including expertise in REST API design.
- Knowledge of secure coding practices and common security protocols and patterns.
- Experience with cloud‑based architecture patterns and practices.
- Appreciation for emerging technology trends in analytics, mobile and AI.
- Knowledge of data modeling and database systems.
- Experience with SDLC (ideally agile), ALM tools and practices.
- Familiarity with micro‑services architecture patterns.
- Experience with front‑end UI patterns, practices and technologies.
The Fidelity Charitable Gift Fund ('Fidelity Charitable') is a public charity that sponsors the largest national donor‑advised fund program. Since 1991, Fidelity Charitable has introduced tens of thousands of donors to the benefits and increased charitable impact of using a donor‑advised fund to meet philanthropic goals. As Director of Architecture, you will play an important role in shaping the technology systems that support our charitable mission, working with the team to modernize legacy systems, scale to meet growing demand, and continue ongoing digital transformation.
Most roles at Fidelity are hybrid, requiring associates to work onsite every other week (all business days, M‑F) in a Fidelity office; this does not apply to remote or fully onsite roles.
