Operations Associate

Piper Companies is seeking an Operations Associate to join an established life insurance and annuities organization based in Durham, NC
. This role supports both customer operations and claims processing, ensuring accurate policy servicing, thoughtful communication, and timely resolution of life and annuity claims.

• Evaluate and determine claim coverage in accordance with policy provisions, procedures, and regulatory requirements
• Verify and analyze claim data, establish reserves, and authorize payments within defined authority levels
• Communicate with claimants, medical providers, employers, and legal partners to gather required information
• Document claim activity, decisions, and financial transactions accurately across internal systems
• Manage assigned workloads—including new claims, pending items, service requests, and audit feedback—within established turnaround times
• Support continuous improvement by identifying workflow efficiencies and maintaining compliance with HIPAA and internal integrity standards

• Bachelor’s degree required
• Previous professional experience demonstrating reliability, communication skills, and customer interaction
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to navigate complex rules, policies, and state regulations
• Empathetic, composed, and professional when assisting individuals facing sensitive or challenging situations
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to balance multiple tasks in a fast‑paced environment

• Pay Rate: $20–$23/hour
