GIS Application Analyst

Specialized Recruiting Group is hiring a GIS Application Analyst for a full-time contract position with the local municipal government in Durham, NC.

As a GIS Application Analyst you would provide enterprise Geographic Information Systems (GIS) support by creating, editing, and maintaining GIS data, developing standard and custom GIS web maps, applications, and services, and ensuring data accuracy, consistency, and standardization across the enterprise GIS environment, with particular support for public safety operations.

This is a full-time (40 hours/week) contract position with a pay rate of $30-$34/hour. This is a Hybrid position, requiring at least 2 days per week on-site in Durham, NC. The contract has no specific end-date and is effectively open-ended, as well as offering the possibility of conversion.

Responsibilities Include:

• Create, edit, and maintain enterprise GIS data, ensuring accuracy, compatibility, consistency, and standardization free from spatial, topological, attribute, and other conflicts and errors.
• Develop standard and custom GIS web maps, applications, and services, and provide ongoing support to GIS users across departments while enabling GIS best practices and QA/QC workflows.
• Support GIS projects by assisting with defining project needs, specifying datasets, selecting or creating databases, conducting data analyses, and producing maps, presentations, and supporting documentation.
• Coordinate and facilitate special projects by attending meetings, preparing and presenting demonstrations, interacting with vendors, providing staff training, and writing GIS technical reports as required.
• Provide software support by writing documentation, conducting training, upgrading software, defining streamlined workflows, and providing technical assistance to end users.
• Troubleshoot issues and provide end-user support for GIS applications, with a focus on public safety needs, including systems such as Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) and Records Management Systems (RMS).

Desired

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, GIS, Geography, Data Analytics, Computer Science, or a related field, with demonstrated coursework or applied experience in GIS and spatial data management.
• 2–5 years of professional GIS experience, preferably in a local government or public safety environment.
• Proficiency with Esri software, including a variety of Esri mapping solutions and applications.
• Experience with enterprise GIS and data management systems and mapping integration.
• Experience with public safety technologies such as Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), Records Management Systems (RMS), and related systems.
• Knowledge of data quality assurance methods and editing practices for key datasets such as street centerlines and addresses.
• Technical writing skills with the ability to produce clear documentation, technical reports, and professional correspondence using proper grammar and professional standards.
• GISP Certification (or actively pursuing certification) preferred.
• Valid NC Class C Driver's License required for permanent employment (not contract employment).
