Broughton Hospital is accepting applications for two Licensed Sign Language Interpreters, one on 1st Shift and one on 2nd Shift, to work in the Deaf Services Department, specifically the co‑ed deaf unit. The primary focus is to provide interpreting services for patients diagnosed with mental illness and/or co‑occurring substance use disorders and to hospital staff supporting these patients within a multidisciplinary team.
Responsibilities- Interpret in various settings including educational, medical, legal, financial, employment, and community meetings.
- Teach beginning American Sign Language (ASL) classes.
- Render messages for a deaf person manually, orally, or in writing.
- Interpreting, transliterating, and signing to voice interpretations.
- Assess clients’ communication skill level and determine appropriate services.
- NC Interpreter and Transl iterator License.
- Experience providing sign language interpreting services in a mental health setting.
- Minimum education:
Bachelor’s degree in an interpreter training program from an accredited institution and two years of professional interpreting experience, or equivalent combination. - Must satisfy license requirements of the North Carolina Interpreter and Transl iterator Licensing Board.
- Authorized to pass State Bureau of Investigation Criminal History Check.
- Complete and pass BLS/CPR and Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training during orientation.
- 1st Shift: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (no premium).
- 2nd Shift: 3:00 p.m. – 11:30 p.m. (10% weekday premium).
- On‑call coverage required for weekends and holidays on a rotating schedule among four interpreters.
- Mandatory to report or remain on site during adverse weather events.

SalaryRecruitment Range: $52,592.00 – $92,036.00
