Job Summary:
The Buyer will be responsible for procuring materials, equipment, and services necessary to produce products and to meet the Company’s Sales & Operations Plans and Quality Objectives. This position is responsible for purchasing, expediting, scheduling, and the organizing of activities pertaining to product procured from external suppliers (including but not limited to cleared, custom, and R&D).
Duties and responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain strong internal working relationships across operations, supply chain, finance, quality, and product development.
- Understand the objectives, responsibilities, and mission of the operations and work towards those goals.
- Prioritize and plan work activities; adapt for changing conditions.
- Plan purchases for assigned products, projects, and commodities and negotiate and implement appropriate buying methods.
- Issue purchase orders, confirm delivery schedules, and expedite deliveries as required.
- Request quotes from suppliers as needed and provide suppliers with additional documentation as needed.
- Resolve issues surrounding purchases (delivery schedule, receiving, invoicing).
- Develop strong relationships with suppliers and be able to negotiate the best price for products/services.
- Assist supply chain and quality to identify and qualify suppliers.
- Manage supplier performance and develop plans to alleviate any supply chain risks.
- Hold suppliers to defined, contractual service level by monitoring and measuring their performance.
- Maintain, revise, and provide training for purchasing procedures and associated forms.
- Provide forecasts to suppliers using inputs from the Supply Chain team.
- Assume responsibility for placing supply orders in a timely manner to assure high levels of product availability.
- Maintain and publish accurate tracking systems to keep all stakeholders informed of any potential disruptions in supply chain.
- Other responsibilities as assigned.
Required
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience.
- 2+ years of demonstrated success in purchasing or supplier management, preferably in a medical device or other regulated environment is preferred.
- Experience with SAP is preferred.
- Proficient in various MS Office applications.
- Able to work flexible and/or extended hours and weekends as business demands.
Required Skills:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Able to work accurately in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment with strong attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to monitor own work to ensure quality, accuracy, and thoroughness.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and time-management skills.
- Must be able to adapt to changing priorities and tasks and demonstrated flexibility in a changing business environment.
- Models a positive can-do attitude and is cooperative both within their function and company-wide.
- Able to self-motivate and work both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication skills with external suppliers and customers to minimize and eliminate all supply chain risks.
- Strong analytical skills. Excel experience desired.
- Execute responsibilities with minimal direct supervision.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Be present in office or manufacturing floor (as needed) most of the time.
