The department’s portfolio of responsibilities includes the acquisition and sale of properties, design and management of new construction and renovation projects, building maintenance, landscaping and horticultural services, pruning, planting and removal of trees, cemeteries management, and supporting the nonprofit Keep Durham Beautiful, among others. Hiring Range: $77,507.00 to $ / Annually
Devoted to providing project management and oversight of the design and construction of building improvements and major maintenance projects. Perform oversight and management of multiple and/or large, complex, and high‑profile construction and design projects for City facilities and major maintenance. Oversee the entire project lifecycle which may include land acquisition, design, construction, and close‑out and serve as designated subject matter experts.
Decision‑making includes providing input into management objectives, establishing work goals and objectives of a unit to carry out management direction, and selecting the method to address a problem or issue, subject to the constraints established by management objectives and direction.
- Designs and manages complex capital improvement projects based on City and client needs and expectations; prepares project charters, develops project schedules, conducts bid openings, develops request for proposals, negotiates contracts, leads project meetings, coordinates design for in‑house projects or oversees contractors; and ensures that project operations comply with contract specifications, and applicable laws, policies and procedures.
- Performs quality assurance and project monitoring duties; inspects projects on site; creates, manages, and tracks schedules and project performance metrics; selects and approves materials; identifies and manages risk and other project issues; and communicates unresolved issues to upper management.
