The City of Durham Events Project Manager assists in planning, executing, and monitoring mid‑sized to large events. Key responsibilities include coordinating logistics, managing vendor relationships, tracking budgets, and maintaining timelines. They serve as a primary contact for event‑related questions, troubleshoot on‑site issues, and ensure the successful execution of events.

Duties / Responsibilities
  • Project Planning:
    Create and maintain project timelines, checklists, and event schedules.
  • Logistics Coordination:
    Manage venue selection, transportation coordination, catering, AV setup, and on‑site troubleshooting.
  • Vendor Management:
    Source, negotiate with, and coordinate third‑party vendors, speakers, and suppliers.
  • Stakeholder Communication:
    Provide weekly updates to the internal teams.
  • On‑Site Supervision:
    Manage setup, troubleshooting, and tear‑down of events to ensure a seamless experience.
  • Post‑Event Evaluation:
    Analyze event success through attendee feedback, post‑event reports, and final expense reviews.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Event Management, Project Management, or related field.
  • Three (3) years of experience in event management in government or public sector environments.
  • Strong planning, execution and people management skills.
Additional Preferred Skills
  • Experience creating and maintaining project timelines.
  • Vendor management experience.
  • Experience supervising onsite events.
