Description of Work Knowledge

Skills and Abilities

/Management Preferences The Correctional Captain III position is located at Eastern Correctional Institution in Maury, which houses approximately 477. This position will report to the Associate Warden of Custody and is involved in the planning, supervision, and coordination of activities at a male correctional facility.

Job responsibilities of this position include, but are limited to, the following:
1. Disseminating and interpreting rules, regulations, and orders from prison management.
2. Supervising Correctional Lieutenant III’s and serving as the Officer-In
- Charge (OIC) as needed.
3. Conducting frequent inspections of housing units and other buildings, grounds, and posts to ascertain that officers/staff are alert, that discipline is maintained, and that assignments are being carried out effectively.
4. Implementing disciplinary measures with offenders and employees on infractions of rules and working to prevent or resolve disorders such as assaults, riots, fires, and escapes.
5. Investigating complaints of offenders and making reports of such actions to higher lever officials.
6. Preparing reports on offenders pertaining to their behaviors, attitudes, and work records for use on the offender classification Ability to prepare, review, and follow oral and written instructions explicitly.

/Management Preferences:

Salary Grade Range: $45,431.00 - $79,504.00

Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement.

The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/ Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:

Documented Supervisory Skills in a prison facility.

Knowledge of Facility Operations.

Knowledge of Prison’s Policy and Procedures.

Documented Report Writing Skills.

Facilities are categorized by custody levels (minimum, medium, close) and house individuals serving sentences for felony convictions.
