It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. Description of Work The Correctional Lieutenant III position is located at Eastern Correctional Institution in Maury, which houses approximately 477. Reporting to the Correctional Captain III, this position predominantly and independently provides support to the Correctional Captain.
Knowledge
Skills and Abilities
/Management Preferences Key duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
1. Providing supervision for subordinate staff, conducting shift line-up, making shift assignments and inspecting all personnel to determine if they are physically and mentally capable of assuming an assigned post.
2. Completing, reviewing and maintaining employee time reports, duty rosters, leave schedules, performance evaluations and administrative forms.
3. Conducting investigations as needed.
4. Accounting for persons & funds and ensuring that all assigned equipment is operational.
5. Providing daily inspection of offenders living areas, medical, kitchen areas and the facility as a whole to identify possiblesafety hazards and to ensure the operation is running smoothly.
6. Identifying training needs and coordinating delivery of training to subordinate staff.
7. Conducting searches of staff, visitors and offenders for contraband and responding to emergency situations as needed.
8. Serving as Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the facility when his/her rotation is working in the absence of the Correctional Captain.

Skills and Abilities
/Management Preferences Salary Grade Range: $45,431.00 - $79,504.00
Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement.
The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/ Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:
· Documented supervisory skills in a prison facility.
· Documented experience with report writing.
· Knowledge of Prisons’ Policy and Procedures/ or Facility Operations The Posting Will Close At 11:59 P.M. The Night Before The End Date.

The salary grade for this position is NC11 . State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase May result.
Ab out The Division of Institutions:
The Division of Institutions manages the daily operations of all state-operated prison facilities across North Carolina. Facilities are categorized by custody levels (minimum, medium, close) and house individuals serving sentences for felony convictions. The division provides safety, security, and rehabilitative services through trained custody staff, program facilitators, and administrative personnel.
