The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community.

The position reports to the Plant Manager of the Carthage Recycling Plant in Moore County, NC. As a Correction Enterprise Supervisor II (Litter Crew), the primary focus of this role is supervising a crew of 10 inmates working outdoors to collect litter along local roadways. Because this work is highly visible to the public, the supervisor must always maintain a professional appearance and demeanor.
The employee is responsible for the custody, accountability, and supervision of all inmates under their direction, including oversight of their conduct, appearance, and job performance. The employee is also responsible for tool, chemical, and key control. Errors in this position may result in serious safety violations, security breaches, or economic loss. This employee is responsible for supervising minimum-custody, unskilled inmates in a manufacturing environment.
Duties include ensuring the safety, security, and training of inmates; assigning job tasks; maintaining inmate accountability; and reviewing work in progress to ensure safety and quality standards are met. The employee must maintain proper documentation of inmate training and work procedures and communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with upper management.
